This has to be related somehow...
This is a different take on what we've seen so far regarding the music industry and lawsuits. Some in the music industry are proposing to charge consumers a tax that basically says "pay us not to sue you as you download our music." Interesting and frightening at the same time.

okay, so is this actually possible? Can the music companies sue an ISP for content its users download? If so, then it sounds like a great deal for the ISPs b/c they'll pass the buck to all users. Somehow this doesn't seem feasible because music companies can't really touch every p2p file sharer now so how would $5 change that equation? We'd feel better about the legality of it? I think they're sad because they can't charge us to the Nth degree for a CD with one decent track. Speaking of Nth degree...
I like the way NIN's Trent Reznor said, "“I think if there was an ISP tax of some sort, we can say to the consumer, ‘All music is now available and able to be downloaded and put in your car and put in your iPod and put up your a– if you want and it’s $5 on your cable bill.’” but wah-lah, only 1 in 5 said he would pay the tax so now the album is free. . .
